TOOLS, TYRES AND PRODUCTIVITY

The old proverb tells us that a bad workman always blames his tools. There’s some truth in that, but it’s also true that the finest craftsmen in the world can be held back by substandard equipment. Why else would people have their own toolboxes?

THANKS RISHI!

The chancellor’s much heralded Super Deduction Tax gives businesses a capital allowance of 130% in the first year on any investments they make in qualifying plant and machinery. Ian Latimer, Emmegi (UK)’s Managing Director, evaluates its value: “Effectively, it means that for every £10,000 spent on machinery, there’s a saving of £2500 on the corporation tax bill – compared with £1800 using the existing writing down allowances. If you consider there’s no upper limit on how much you can invest, then it’s potentially a pretty big incentive.

ALUK LAUNCHES NEW COLOUR COLLECTION

AluK is transforming its colour offering with the launch of a brand-new colour collection which it says will help trade customers win more business with stronger, more sustainable margins.

Working with paint supplier Akzo Nobel, AluK has identified the key trends dominating the retail and commercial markets at the moment and put together four distinct, highly durable colour ranges in response.

Branded Elements, Homestead, Spectrum and Urbane, they are available on all of AluK’s products on competitively short lead times and are designed to give customers a huge advantage when it comes to their own sales and logistics operations.

Elements and Homestead are AluK’s powder coated colour ranges for the retail market. Elements features 17 vibrant RAL options in a smooth finish, while Homestead includes 13 classic, warm RAL options in a textured finish.

For the commercial market, AluK’s Spectrum and Urbane ranges combine additional durability with enhanced variations in finish to suit both volume and high-end specifications.

There are 21 contemporary textured metallic colours within Spectrum, while Urbane features 14 bolder colours in a smooth anodic metal finish which offers a simple and cost-effective alternative to anodising.

SHEERLINE ADDS NEW GLOSS HIPCA WHITE TO STOCKED RANGE

In response to customer demand, Garnalex has introduced a new gloss finish, HIPCA White, to its range of stocked colours for Sheerline windows and doors.

HIPCA White, RAL 9910 is an additional white option, alongside the existing Pure White, RAL 9010, bringing the total stocked colours for Sheerline’s colour range to 12. The new coating will be the first of Sheerline’s range to be available in a gloss finish.

The innovative Sheerline aluminium window and door system is transforming the residential aluminium market since the introduction of its first system, Classic, last year. Designed from the ground up, Classic is an ultra-secure beadless aluminium window system which combines exceptional performance with refined aesthetics.

Earlier this year, it was joined by Prestige, Sheerline’s most versatile and thermally-efficient system. Prestige features window U-values as low as 0.9 W/(m²K) for triple glazing and 1.3 U-value W/(m²K) for double glazed and includes single and French doors with a wide range of outer frames and styles for near unlimited choice.

’100% RECYCLABLE ALUMINIUM?’

By Phil Slinger – CAB Chief Executive

A lot has been claimed about the benefits of aluminium by CAB and many other associations, but we should also ask: “Where would we be today without this material?” With a high strength to weight ratio, aluminium is a structural engineering material, without it we would not have the modern airliners of today, or indeed much in the way of  space flight.

On the ground, more of our vehicles are now being made from aluminium, as less weight means less energy used in propulsion and potentially longer lasting vehicles. In fact, there are so many uses of the material across our modern life, it is difficult to imagine life without it!

About Council for Aluminium in Building
The Council for Aluminium in Building (CAB) was formed in 1994 by the bringing together of three existing trade associations, the Architectural Aluminium Association, the Patent Glazing Contractors Association and the Aluminium Window Association, all of whom had been established for well over 25 years. CAB’s mission is to support the interests of the aluminium supply chain in both the commercial and residential markets, to encourage quality and best practice, to set new technical standards and protect members' business and contractual interests. One of the main challenges for the aluminium industry today is to improve the cyclical nature of the material by recycling aluminium within specific grades making products virtually 100% recyclable. More about the CAB Closed Loop Recycling initiative can be found on the associations website.
