TECH TALK – FEELS SO RIGHT, IT CAN’T BE WRONG – BY JUSTIN FURNESS, CAB SENIOR CONSULTANT

As reported to CAB members in last month’s Insight, our round-up of the latest standards and legislation changes and in a subsequent Technical Update, the UK government has now set out how manufacturers can use historic EU Notified Body test reports to AVCP System 3 to UKCA mark their products going forward. While this does not solve all the issues in the transition to UKCA marking, and it has no doubt created some frustration for those that were proactive in case no such announcement would be forthcoming and getting tests completed in UK and EU labs, we largely welcome the move. We must also be thankful that the announcement was made before there were wholesale changes at ministerial level, which could have resulted in delays.

Having said that, the changes will need to be legislated for to have legal certainty, so we do need buy in from the new ministers to set out the necessary statutes before year end. If its any consolation for those trying to untangle UKCA marking, I understand that the situation with UK REACH is turning into an even bigger headache for some.

Happy days!
